Ahead of Schedule with Time-Lapse
Fitzroy River Bridge delivered six months ahead of schedule.

Efficient project management enabled Sitevisuals’ client, the Fitzroy Bridge Alliance (FBA), to deliver the Fitzroy River Bridge project an impressive six-months ahead of schedule.

Originally slated for a partial opening, FBA Community Relations Advisor Kathryn Lourey said the expedited timeline was made possible due to the efforts and collaboration of the project team, government, local community and subcontractors like Sitevisuals.

Factors such as the size, complexity, and scope of the project, regulatory approvals and site and weather conditions, all affect a project’s estimated time of completion.

Sitevisuals’ time-lapse cameras were able to help FBA record the construction progress from the beginning of the project through the provision of high-quality images every step of the way.

"Sitevisuals’ footage supported us in our efforts to accurately report on site challenges and progress to our clients and stakeholders,” FBA Construction Manager Rowan Dillon said.

Members of the Alliance had previously used Sitevisuals’ time-lapse offering and found success with the service in recording milestones, keeping remote staff up to date and providing access to a database of images for project reports.

"Time-lapse helps us keep a record of project progress and milestones,” he said.
"We are able to go back in time to confirm the dates and times that these milestones happened. It also provides the ability for remote staff and management to ‘check-in’ in real time on project status.”

Sitevisuals created a video upon project completion for the FBA to enjoy a condensed showing of the team’s hard work from start to finish.

The video showcases all the components that came together to enable such a fast delivery of the momentous project.

"We operated 24/7 works on the critical path superstructure that once started did not stop,” Rowan said.
"This included steel beam assembly, form works, rebar work, concrete pours and bridge deck works.”

In addition, a modular composite bridge design allowed for the bridge piers to be prefabricated off site while concurrent works took place.

The Fitzroy River Bridge is a critical transport link in Western Australia’s Kimberley Region.

The FBA, comprising of BMD, Georgiou, BG&E and Main Roads WA, undertook the project following a devastating 1 in 100-year flood that destroyed the previous bridge.

The Alliance constructed a new two-lane bridge over the Fitzroy River with flood and scour protection and provision for a pedestrian pathway.
